Message from the
AOS President

Mabuhay! Warm greetings from Manila!

After being postponed twice, brought about by the pandemic, the 6th ASEAN Ophthalmology Society Congress (AOS) will finally push through on October 18-20, 2023 in Manila, Philippines! It is with much delight that I invite you all to participate in this on-site congress that will bring together the ten member countries of the AOS, which is also marking its 10th founding anniversary this year. This Congress has “Global Trends Through A Regional Perspective” as its theme and will be held in conjunction with the Annual Congress of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology. This meeting of the minds is made more special with the participation of the South Asian Academy of Ophthalmology.

Aside from the opportunity to share the latest knowledge in ophthalmology, rekindling old friendships, and forming new ones, this Congress will be the perfect venue for you to experience the gracious and heartfelt Filipino hospitality, the vibrant Filipino culture, and of course the one-of-a-kind Filipino cuisine.

Just click on the appropriate link for registration and the submission of abstracts. I look forward to welcoming you face to face in Manila this October!

Sincerely,

Ruben Lim Bon Siong, MD
Congress President

Message from the
PAO President

The Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) welcomes you to the 6th ASEAN Ophthalmology Society (AOS) Congress in conjunction with the 2023 PAO Annual Congress.

After more than three years, we warmly open our doors to delegates from all over the region and beyond for a face-to-face meeting on October 18-20, 2023, at the SMX Convention Center in Manila. Those who prefer to participate virtually will still be able to do so via delayed streaming of the scientific lectures.

The theme of the Congress is “Global Trends Through a Regional Perspective”. It will showcase updates and innovations in the various ophthalmological subspecialties across the region. In addition, there are interesting sessions on relevant topics like Community Ophthalmology, Residency Training Programs and the Impact of the COVID Pandemic that have been prepared.

Not to be missed is the Fellowship Night which promises to be a culinary and visual experience highlighting the rich cultures and traditions of the rapidly growing nations in Southeast Asia. It will be a most opportune time to break barriers, forge new friendships and simply enjoy the night away!

I am hopeful and excited to see you in October. In a spirit of collegiality and camaraderie, let us learn together not only about current trends in Ophthalmology, but also about the diversities that make each of our countries unique and the common visions we share in promoting and propagating quality eye care globally.

Mabuhay!

Vicente Victor D. Ocampo Jr. MD
President, Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology

Message from the
AOS Secretary General

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

The year 2023 marks a special occasion for Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ophthalmology Society (AOS). It was on May 18, 2013, at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, when representatives of Ophthalmologists from ASEAN: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam joined together in a summit to form AOS.

From the first congress in Bangkok in 2014, the second congress in Hanoi in 2016, the third congress in Jakarta in 2018, the fourth congress in Cambodia in 2019, the fifth congress in virtual format in 2021, and the sixth congress to be held this year in Manila, we witness the steady growth with continuity of AOS.

Apart from being the Congress that marks the 10th anniversary of AOS, the Congress in Manila, hosted by the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology on October 18-20, 2023, at SMX Convention Center, will be the first in-person AOS Congress since the pandemic of COVID-19. I believe all of us are excited to meet each other face-to-face once again after all these years of seeing each other on tiny computer screens. I am certain that the 6th AOS Congress in Manila this year will be a great success.
Let’s get together to connect, share, and learn to save sights and give visions to our people in this ASEAN region.

“Ten Countries, One Vision”

Paisan Ruamviboonsuk, MD
The Secretary-General of AOS
